So what is this system?
What is the foundation of violin playing? As a professional violinist playing in London's world famous orchestras, I didn't have to ask what it was I was doing or how I did it. I just played the way I was taught.
When I turned to teaching I had to put my mind to these questions. It occured to me that playing 'instictively' is only a very small part of the process. There is a relationship between finger patterns or 'feel', and tonality or key
that is founded on a systematic method of study. A link between hand and ear must be established - then 'muscle memory' can take over.
And this is the basis of my system. My books establish those links from the outset.
Comprehensive.
Along side the development of the left hand my books provide a devlopment of bowing technique too. They take the student through a comprehensive study of string-crossing, detache, legato, portato, martelle, marcarto, staccato and suatille bowings.
In addition there are hundreds of musical examples of the application of a particular technique in violin duets for teacher and pupil to enjoy together.
Magic?
THERE ARE NO SHORT CUTS to learning the violin. If someone offers a quick and easy way you can be sure it won't take you anywhere.
